Could a book revealed more than 1,400 years ago speak of facts that science has only discovered in the modern era? This question has sparked the interest of millions of researchers and thinkers around the world, prompting many to reconsider the Holy Quran as a book that transcends the boundaries of time and space.
the scientific miraculousness of the Qur’an refers to scientific facts mentioned in the Holy Qur’an that were unknown to people at the time of its revelation and were only discovered centuries later. These scientific facts are regarded by many believers as evidence that the Qur’an is not the work of human beings but a divine revelation containing knowledge beyond the capabilities of people living in that era. Furthermore, the Qur’an encourages the pursuit of knowledge, reflection, and exploration, emphasizing that learning and education are essential foundations for the progress and advancement of society.
The miraculous scientific of the Holy Qur’an includes the following:
1. The Linguistic Miracle (Al-I’jaz Al-Bayani)
The linguistic miracle is one of the most prominent and earliest recognized forms of the Qur’an’s miraculous nature. It concerns the unmatched eloquence, linguistic excellence, literary style, and rhetorical perfection of the Holy Qur’an. The Qur’an is regarded as an unparalleled linguistic and literary masterpiece because of its extraordinary eloquence, remarkable precision, and unique structure, which humanity has been unable to imitate.
Allah Almighty says:
“So when We have recited it then follow its recitation. Then upon Us is its clarification.” (Surah Al-Qiyamah, 75:18-19)
Its miraculous nature encompasses several dimensions, ranging from its acoustic and auditory characteristics to its comprehensive narrative structure across chapters (Surahs) and verses (Ayat). Key features include the unique and magnificent way events and situations are organized—a structure so profound that humanity is utterly unable to match it.
In fact, the Qur’an challenges both mankind and the jinn to produce even a single chapter that rivals its eloquence, depth, and meaning. This challenge has stood unanswered for over 1400 years.

Allah Almighty says:
“Say, ‘If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they were to each other assistants.'” (Surah Al-Isra, 17:88)

. Scientific Inimitability (Al-I’jaz al-Ilmi)
The scientific inimitability of the Quran is viewed as strong evidence that it is the word of God Almighty and not of human authorship. This is because some of the facts believed to be mentioned in it were unknown at the time of its revelation, and scientists did not discover them until much later eras—which believers consider proof of its divine source. Scientific inimitability in the Quran spans numerous scientific fields, such as embryology and the development of creation, cosmology and astrophysics, marine science and oceanography, medicine, geology, biology, and others. Proponents of this concept hold that the Quran contains accurate facts and advanced concepts that align with the findings of modern science.
The Unseen Miraculousness (Al-I’jaz Al-Ghaybi) of the Holy Qur’an
The unseen miraculousness of the Holy Qur’an refers to its revelation of past, present, and future events that are beyond the capacity of human beings to know or predict. This is regarded as compelling evidence of its divine origin. This aspect of the Qur’an can be divided into three main categories, which are illustrated throughout its chapters and verses: as follow
The Unseen of the Past
This category refers to the Qur’an’s narration of events that occurred long before the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), including the histories of earlier nations and prophets. Allah Himself describes these accounts as matters of the unseen.
Among the examples are the stories of previous peoples and prophets, together with the detailed information and narratives concerning them. The miraculous nature of these accounts lies in the fact that they relate historical events that neither the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) nor his people had any means of knowing except through divine revelation.
Allah says in Surah Hud:
﴿ تِلْكَ مِنْ أَنبَاءِ الْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهَا إِلَيْكَ ۖ مَا كُنتَ تَعْلَمُهَا أَنتَ وَلَا قَوْمُكَ مِن قَبْلِ هَٰذَا ۖ فَاصْبِرْ ۖ إِنَّ الْعَاقِبَةَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ﴾
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muhammad]. You knew it not, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient; indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteou
. The Unseen of the Present
The unseen of the present refers to events occurring during the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) that he did not personally witness, yet which the Qur’an accurately revealed. A notable example is the exposure of the hypocrites and the disclosure of the contradiction between their outward actions and their concealed intentions
And that He might test the hypocrites, it was said to them: “Come, fight in the Way of Allah or (at least) defend yourselves.” They said: “Had we known that fighting will take place, we would certainly have followed you.” They were that day, nearer to disbelief than to Faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allah has full knowledge of what they conceal.
The Unseen of the Future
The unseen of the future refers to Qur’anic verses that foretold events which had not yet occurred at the time of their revelation but later came to pass, whether during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) or afterward. Such knowledge could only have been conveyed through divine revelation among the most prominent examples are:
Preservation of the Holy Qur’an:
Allah, the Exalted, has guaranteed the preservation of His Book from alteration and corruption. This was a prophecy concerning the unseen future, and history has confirmed its truth throughout the centuries.

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).
