ALLAH caused him to die for 100 years, then brought him back to life.

The story of Uzair is mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah, and it is also referenced in another:
Surah At-Tawbah, where Allah says: And the Jews say, ‘Uzair is the son of Allah.’”
• The story of Uzair, that prophet or righteous man from the Bany Israel, whom Allah caused to die for a year and to whom Allah granted abundant knowledge and preservation. The story says that this righteous man was riding on his donkey, and after traveling for some time, he passed by a town in ruins—its houses empty and abandoned. He stopped, astonished and contemplative, and said, “Is it possible that Allah could bring this town back to life, when all that remains are its ruins?” As mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says on his tongue:
“How will Allah bring this (town) to life after its death?
“((أَنَّى يُحْيِي هَذِهِ اللَّهُ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا) .

Then ALLAH Caused him to die while he was sleeping and took his soul for a hundred years. Then God resurrected him again. Then Ezra woke up from his sleep, and God sent someone to ask him. The one who asked him was an angel in the form of a human being, and he asked Ezra how long he had been sleeping, as God Almighty said in His Holy Book (He said, “How long have you been sleeping?”). Ezra replied to the one who asked him that he had been sleeping for a day or part of a day, as God Almighty said in Surat Al-Baqarah (He said, “I have been sleeping for a day or part of a day”). So the answer was that he had been sleeping for a short period
But the angel, whom he asked, replied that he had remained dead for a full hundred years. As Allah says in His Book:
قَالَ بَل لَّبِثْتَ مِئَةَ عَامٍ
“He said: ‘Rather, I have remained a hundred years.’”
“…and look at the bones, how We raise them and then clothe them with flesh.”
From the above verses, we understand that he had died for a hundred years and Allah resurrected him as a sign for the people, as Allah Almighty says in the Qur’an:

“And so We might make you a sign for the people.”

At that moment, Ezra realized that Allah is capable of causing death and giving life, and of reviving the town that had become desolate:

“Then when it became clear to him, he said: ‘I know that Allah has power over all things.’”

He then went out to the town and found it rebuilt by humans and began to walk through it.
